Presents:

FatHeR BrotHeR Sun
(Funk/R and B/Rock/Soul and Hip Hop or Funk-Rock-Soul-Hop)

Biography:
FatHeR BrotHeR Sun is a band formed out of mixed musical interests and a continued support for Atiim Chenzira's Music. This band has come out of  various incarnations; from FRENDZ (2005), to SupaFRENDZ (06'), to then splitting musical genre sounds and becoming the Funk inspired Hip Hop band Bomani Musik (08'), and the Rock inspired Soul band Dragon Spit 22, to the now consolidated FHRBHRS. Much like the lead singer, Atiim Chenzira, these projects have had a great deal of personality, and time to find the right sound.  FatHeR BrotHeR Sun (FHRBHRS) has finally arrived! With the Jimi Hendrix reminiscent guitar of Kenji Matsui, and the Funk Bass licks of Oscar Urcuyo, who have been in many band versions since 2005, to the new blood of Alpha Lewis (son of  the great Aura Lewis), who holds the drum sticks and keeps the pocket filled.
Photography by Aeron Miller

FatHeR BrotHeR Sun is a serious band. With the support vocals of Chloe Jean, Kamilah Shuaibe, and Ali Hammad, they are set. However, the word is, they are seeking a full time keys player, and a horn section, so stay tuned, for this band is still evolving, and ready to blow your socks off.

Nobody gave sOuL (aka sOuL from the O) permission to make his brand of Hip-Hop, and he likes it this way.
Biography

Nobody gave sOuL permission to make his brand of hip-hop, and he likes it this way. Sometimes eclectic, sometimes fierce, pounding on the doors of the establishment, sOuL has been on a collision course for expanding the boundaries of contemporary music for some time now. Releasing his first album in the early 2000's A World Without End showcased sOuL's own beats and lyrics with the collaborative mix of live musicians, recorded in a day; this combination brought forth a steady stream of live performances with his 4 piece band in and around the California Bay Area. In 2006 came sOuL's 12” vinyl offering: Body in the Trunk (A side) and As I Walk (B Side) circulated amongst local, national and international DJ's along with numerous free downloads on the internet. This single was the setup for the long awaited second EP release: The Unspoken Word.

With sOuL's unfiltered lyrics The Unspoken Word is both introspective and futuristic traveling through the social, political, the serious and the funny. One such example is the song “Go Back”, a track that echoes the feeling of longing for yesterday with its 70's beat, allure and feel: “ Street signs don't look behind but keep reaching/ forward and I know it but the past strip teasing/showing off the best disguising the unrest making me feel like them times was the best” 5 years in the making, the album took many twists and turns, as sOuL experienced the haunting of perfectionism, the project got put on hold twice, with numerous song versions and re-writes along the way. Turning over a majority of the production duties to a talented group of beat makers, producers and musicians freed sOuL up and aided the album's completion. As sOuL explains it, "This album is my tribute to the chants, the rhymes, and the invisible that moves and unites us all! I had to make it as hot as I could!" Upon release in spring 2011, the album was made widely available through iTunes, CDbaby.com, Pandora and a host of other digital and traditional music sites.

Chloe Jean

Miss Chloe Jean will be performing at Spice Monkey on April 19th with A Thousand WordZ. Her silky, almost unnaturally beautiful tones and melodic resonance will drive you to bight your knuckles; ask yourself if this is real, and wonder how beautiful one person can truly be... She is a humble person, and while she is singing, if you close your eyes for just a blink, and reopen them, you will see that sound and physical representation are truly married.

BIOGRAPHY:
Chloe Jean is a professional model signed to the largest, most sought after agency in the world; FORD Models. Yes, she can take a nice picture, but Chloe Jean is much more than just a pretty face.
A singer/songwriter since the age of 5, Chloe finds inspiration in everyday situations and turns  them into heartfelt, relatable lyrics. In 2010, she worked for indie label, TMG (Temple Music Group), creating techno-soul records with producer Jay Williams. A pop-R&B artist at heart,  however, Chloe branched out and the first song she ever produced on her home computer was used as the theme song for the TV pilot, Izzy Unleashed. Her work caught the eye of producer Scott Urquhart and currently they are creating undeniably catchy, relevant, and commercial hits.
Her inspirations include: Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Janet Jackson, Jack Johnson, India Arie, and countless others.

3807 San Pablo ~ The Marquist: Leah and Alex.

Throughout the USA, tattoo shops are very similar. Shops are usually adorned with flash art, and most artists have only one style that they excel in. We are attempting a more refined approach to an age old art form, while remaining grounded by our urban lifestyle and surroundings. At the front of the shop is a large open art gallery promoting local celebrity and up and coming artists, while engaging customers to encounter the tattoo and body modification process. Tattooing has secured a permanent place in our culture, the artwork itself is timeless, and should be coveted and presented as such. As conscious members of the community, we are providing an upscale destination for the local community of artists and patrons.

Leah Pesner, owner and artist, was born in 1983 and raised in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area. Throughout her childhood she used to draw in text books during class, and carry a sketch book around wherever she went. Although she has not intentionally pursued a career in fine art, these years have provided her with an inherent knowledge and skill produced only through time and practice. She has been tattooing since 2001, and it is her life passion. She has been fascinated with body modification since she was a minor, and as soon as she came of age Leah dove right in to the scene. She has experience in other forms of body modification as well, such as piercing, scarification and branding. The human body is her favorite kind of canvas.

Tattoo’s with fine lines, intense color, and clear visible tattoos on dark skin tones are what she is sought out for. She does however have a very versatile technique and enjoys photo realism, portraiture, lettering, fantasy art, tribal, or anything else the customer may be looking for. She is always looking for challenging pieces to test her abilities and take her skills to the next level. Fine art is also an important duality to her career, including painting, drawing, and sculpture.

Leah’s boyfriend and business partner, Alex Nolan, is an established kinetic sculptor, and contractor, who has connected with a network of artists while attended the California College of the Arts and Crafts in Oakland and SF. We have a complete inventory for our first art show, and several tentative group shows in planning, but we could use YOUR HELP, YOUR ART, and DONATIONS to get started.

The shop is done enough to tattoo in and hold events!!! If you are a performer of any kind, and would like to collaborate on some of these events, please let us know! Also, Fine artists with special talents who are willing to share them in Art Symposiums, please contact us for booking a place in our gallery!

Emeryville is a town with great potential. With Lanesplitter Pizza nearby, and the corner of Adeline and San Pablo street exposure, a tattoo shop and art gallery presented this way will be unique, and the only establishment of its kind in the greater bay area. We already have a large customer base locally, and plan to aggressively advertise and utilize our network of friends and associates to help us get started.

We look forward to seeing you!
